RE: YOUNG KNEELING KNIGHT RELIEF, ONE CAST OF WHICH IS KNOWN AS THE MARK JOSLYN MEMORIAL
The "Young Kneeling Knight" relief is a full-length image of a young warrior in armor similar to the sort Mr. Fredericks' Don Quixote wears. The sculpture is about 30 inches high.
Mr. Fredericks told me last week that the first cast was for Ottawa Hills High School in Grand Rapids. Correspondence from Rebecca Pawloski in Grand Rapids indicates that the relief is inscribed "Marshall Fredericks 1949." Mr. Fredericks told me that cast was silver.
Another cast of the sculpture is located in a high school (Seaholm High School) in Bloomfield Hills. Mr. Fredericks said that was the second and only other cast in a public collection. It is known locally as the Mark Joslyn Memorial in honor of an outstanding student and athelete who, I believe, perished in World War II. Additional information on this indoor work may have been gathered with the SOS! project.
There is a silver plated bronze cast of the work in Mr. Fredericks' personal collection at his home. I think there are several other casts in private collections.
