Dublin Core
Title
German Philosopher, [Plaster]
Subject
Figure sculpture, American--20th century
Description
Plaster cast of the German Philosopher. Surface is stained from releasing agent or may have been painted.
Fredericks never identified by name the German philosopher he portrayed during his travel and study in Germany following the months he spent as an assistant in the studio of Carl Milles in Stockholm. In 1991 he indicated that he had shipped a German Philosopher, Nobujii Yoshida, and Lloyd Westbrook to the U.S. during his youthful sojourn. However, this cast has a Bedi Rassy foundry mark, indicating it was cast in New York City before that foundry became the Bedi Makky Foundry. The location of the early German cast is unknown.
