God on the Rainbow, Milles' God Figure, [Resin Casting]

Subject

Figure sculpture, American--20th century

Description

Resin casting of Carl Milles' God from God and the Rainbow. Arms are detached. Blue-green in color.

This sculpture was based on a 1946 sketch by Carl Milles for a peace monument intended for the United Nations Building in New York. In 1995 Fredericks sculpted the full size figures. The sculpture stands at the entrance to Stockholm Harbor, Nacka Strand, Sweden. The project was spearheaded by Cilla Jahn, in collaboration with Millesgarden and the PA Foundation.

Two figures appear on half an Arch that extends upward like the St. Louis Arch and sews water. The God Figure is a the top of the Arch and the Angel Gabriel is at the foot of the Arch throwing stars up to God who hands them on Heaven's arch.
