Lamb, Siesta [Bronze]
Dublin Core
Title
Lamb, Siesta [Bronze]
Subject
Animal sculpture--20th century
Description
Lambs
Bronze
Fredericks created the clay model for these bronze casts in the 1930's when his work was characterized by more naturalistic treatment of surface textures than during his later years. The sketchy finish of these reclining animals evokes the roughness of their woolen coats. Shadows in the crevices contrast with highlights on the upper surfaces, thus animating the sculptural forms.

Notes
Michael Panhorst memo February 9, 1993:
"RE: New Born Lamb
When I showed this sculpture to Mr. Fredericks after picking it up from the trust department of the National Bank of Detroit he indicated that it probably was cast by Amos Mazzolini at Antiock College in Yellow Springs, Ohio, probably in the 1930's. He apparently had a few small things cast there then."
