The Spirit of Detroit Arrives
The sculpture arrived at the Detroit Harbor Terminal on Saturday, September 20th to much fanfare. After the ship’s other cargo of Mercedes-Benz automobiles, sardines, kippered herring, and olive oil was unloaded, two large cranes lifted the sculpture from the bottom of the ship and placed it on a trailer-tractor combination. The Detroit police then escorted The Spirit of Detroit along Fort Street to the City-County Building where it was lifted by two cranes and placed into position.
