Aitken was a student with Fredericks at the Cleveland School of Art. Fredericks was enrolled there 1928 1930. This is one of the earliest portrait busts known by Fredericks. He modeled the naturalistic portrayal in terra cotta, which was then fired in a kiln. Aitken also worked in clay. He was noted for his ceramic sculptures that were exhibited in Cleveland and New York City in the early 1930s. He was also renowned as an outdoors man and a sports writer.
