Furniture for the great apes in the Holden Amphitheater and Great Ape House at the Detroit Zoological Institute.
Fredericks studied the orangutans, gibbons and chimpanzees at the zoo for months to determine their needs, selecting fiberglass and stainless steel for hygienic reasons and bright colors that the apes seemed to like.
Note: The building was replaced by a new primate center in the 1980s

An account of the resource
Alex Dow was a Scottish-born US engineer. Dow was the plant's first manager and electrical engineer for the city of Detroit.
Dow was appointed water commissioner for the city of Detroit in 1916-1921 and again in 1925-1932. In 1932, he was made the president of Detroit Edison and served until 1940. He was elected president of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers for the 1928-1929 year.
This bronze portrait plaque is located at the Detroit Edison Company in Detroit, Michigan.

This fountain celebrates the nation's first exploration of outer space. According to Fredericks, the sculpture "represents this age of great interest, exploration and discovery in outer space...[and] the immensity, order and mystery of the universe.â€
The monumental central figure suggests a superhuman mythological being. Seated upon a ten-foot sphere, covered in a pattern of bright-star constellations, the figure holds two planets that he is sending off into space. The dynamic spiral orbit-form swirling around the sphere represents the speed and perpetual motion of space. Play of the water from numerous star-shaped sprays increases the feeling of movement.
The full-scale casting of this sculpture is located in the South Court of the United States State Department Building in Washington, D.C.
