An account of the resource
“The Expanding Universe Fountain†celebrates the nation's first exploration of outer space. According to Fredericks, the sculpture "represents this age of great interest, exploration and discovery in outer space...[and] the immensity, order and mystery of the universe.â€
The monumental central figure suggests a superhuman mythological being. Seated upon a ten-foot sphere, covered in a pattern of bright-star constellations, the figure holds two planets that he is sending off into space. The dynamic spiral orbit-form swirling around the sphere represents the speed and perpetual motion of space. Play of the water from numerous star-shaped sprays increases the feeling of movement.
The full-scale casting of this sculpture is located in the South Court of the United States State Department Building in Washington, D.C.
The fountain is also known as: "Man and the Expanding Universe"

An account of the resource
The Ford Empire relief was located in the Ford Auditorium constructed on the Detroit riverfront as the new home of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra during 1955-1956. Perhaps the most notable feature of the building's interior was the expansive, curvilinear lobby adorned with some of Marshall Fredericks' most delicate and refined sculptures.
A 145-feet long filigreed metal mural, The Ford Empire, swept almost the entire length of the curved outer wall. On the balcony walls at either end of the foyer stood polished metal theatrical groupings of circus performers, musicians, harlequins, and dancers. Formed from literally thousands of pieces of copper, nickel, brass, stainless steel, and aluminum and plated with gold, zinc, and cadmium these pieces were hand-shaped, joined, plated, and polished.

Full-scale head for Chief Pontiac. Plaster relief with galvanized pipe on the back to hold the relief together.
Cast for Community Bank, Pontiac, MI (now the 30 North Building) in 1964, this piece is the model for the head of the 20' tall sculpture made of gold anodized aluminum. The entire Chief Pontiac is located at Saginaw St, south of M-59, in Pontiac. The head-only section is at the S.E. corner of Woodward and M.L. King Blvd. across from St. Joseph's Hospital.
Ottawa Chief Obwandiyag, name 'Pontiac' by the British, lead the war of liberation in 1763. After a valiant fight that included alliances of many neighboring tribes, the peace treaty was finalized at Fort Ontario, July 23-25, 1766. Then Superintendent of Indian Affairs, William Johnson, met with Chief Pontiac. Pontiac said, "I speak in the name of all the Nations to the westward whom I command; it is the will of the Great Spirit that we should meet here today and before him and all present I take you by the hand and never will part with it." This pledge became the turning point making the necessary land available for the founding of the city of Detroit.
