Notes

The rectangular plaquette was a standard design Fredericks used for many other sculpture relief portraits. The Flying Wild Geese medallion was cast directly into the piece, but the front of the medallion was too detailed to be cast successfully and had to be welded on separately. The bronze relief is located outside the front door of the museum. It was cast in 1988.

This plaster model is discolored from shellac which is used as a releasing agent. Notice the signature in pencil under the left side: Marshall M Fredericks KD NA. The "KD" may stand for Knights of Danneborg, or it may stand for Kongelig Dansk, Royal Danish and the "NA" could stand for National Academy or North America, but is not certain. Fredericks was a Commander in the Order of Dannebrog as well as a member of the National Academy of Design.

Further information about Jack M. Ryder can be found in, Marshall M. Fredericks, Sculptor, page 200.

***KD. NA. after the signature means "Knights Danneborg, National Academy"
