Subject

Figure sculpture, American--20th century.
Fredericks, Marshall M., 1908-1998

Description

This is the full-scale model for the figures in the Two Sisters Fountain, located in a courtyard of Kingswood School at Cranbrook Educational Community, Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. Inspired by the helpful attitude of the girls at Kingswood, Fredericks cast this full-scale plaster original before leaving Cranbrook for military service in 1942.

It was not until 1965 when Cranbrook Board of Trustees member Robert Grindley decided that the sculpture would be an appropriate memorial for his wife that the bronze casting of the figures was completed. His two daughters attended Kingswood School, thus the title Two Sisters. The bronze sculpture stands at the entrance to Kingswood School.
